The Benefits of Membership in MCA-I Atlanta

Posted on July 24th, 2009 by Carl L. Marxer

National Membership

Media Communications Association - International dues include chapter membership and national membership. You’re automatically eligible for all the membership benefits offered by national membership and membership in the Atlanta Chapter. One of the bigger benefits is a subscription to the MCA-I eNews report. It provides up-to-date discounts, interviews and information from our international organization. There are links to the latest issue and you can sign up for a subscription at http://www.mca-i.org/news/. If your job involves media communication, MCA-I is the portal to resources you need to perform your job more effectively, to advance your career…and to help you get the respect you deserve.

Media Festival

The MCA-I Media Festival celebrates excellence in media communications. Since 1978, Golden Reel honors have been highly coveted and recognized internationally for their prestige. The name stands for creativity and advancement in technical applications. The top entries in all categories are additionally reviewed by a Blue Ribbon Panel which confers outstanding projects with Golden, Silver or Bronze Reels. All Media Communications Association members are eligible for discount entry fees.

Job Hotline

Available exclusively to Media Communications Association members, the professional Job Hotline connects employers (both members and nonmembers) with just the right video professional to fill an opening. The Hotline lists job openings received by the International Office and is available here on Media Communications Association’s WWW service. Every effort is made to provide complete information about each job described on the Hotline; however, the depth of information for any particular job opening is determined by what employers provide. For information on placing a job listing on the Hotline, visit the Find A Job page.

Training

Save 20% on a premium subscription to the lynda.com Online Training Library® See for yourself why this library of web-based video tutorials has built a reputation as one of the most valuable software training solutions available. Use the MCI-A member discount code to save 20% off your premium subscription. Multi-user subscriptions are also available. There are also discounts for the Adobe On-Line store. Login with your name and password, and follow http://www.mca-i.org/en/cms/?4046 to go to the members only page for all of the current discount codes.

Networking

Professional contacts may be your career’s most valuable resource. Year after year, Media Communications Association members consistently rate networking with other members as their number one reason for membership. And for a good reason - professional communicators are Media Communications Association, sharing and disseminating information about the use of television for communication in business, industry, healthcare, government, education and other fields. Media Communications Association members have unlimited opportunities to benefit from the expertise and experience of other professionals in the Media Communications Association worldwide network.

Professional Development

Increased knowledge, polished skills, and expert advice are just some of the benefits from attending Media Communications Association’s Annual International Conference - the association’s stellar professional development opportunity. Featuring many dynamic seminars, this multi-day event offers technical, creative, and management presentations for professionals at every stage in their career. As a member, you receive discounts on conference registration.

Leadership Development

Participating in local, regional, or national committees brings out leadership qualities like communication, budgeting, and “people skills.” In addition to the personal growth, leaders confirm that their employers benefit form this “free” training. The MCA-I national organization offers leadership training to chapter officers and prospective officers two times yearly. There are some costs involved, but the contacts and information gathered at these meetings is quite valuable. Attendees gain a unique insight to the inner workings of the organization, and create friendships that help grow their businesses outside of their local region. Because MCA-I is an international organization, many members depend on other members from across the country to help them with their production businesses. MCA-I is dedicated to providing its members the vast amount of information and training needed to excel in their profession.

Find-A-Pro

Find A Pro™ is an easy-to-use database of MCA-I individual members and companies who provide media production services on a free-lance, contract, or consulting basis. Find-A-Pro is one of the most valuable resources developed by MCA-I. It is an Internet based database of production resources, available for national members only. It provides a way to find and list your own production resources. If you created these resources yourself, you would pay far more than the cost of MCA-I membership yearly to list, research and maintain them. The most valuable part of the system is that it is completely available and indexed to search engines like Google.

Student Benefits

MCA-I is a great organization for young people just starting out in this exciting and growing industry. Students can mingle with working professionals, make valuable contacts and learn first hand about real-world skills necessary for their success.

National and Local Websites

Member forums, IRS Guidelines, job postings and online meetings are just some the valuable information and activities available at the National MCA-I website, the Atlanta Chapter website or both. There is info on the 501c3 designation that our organization holds, and valuable information about our sponsors. The National website features a “members-only” section for member forums and other exclusive information.
